Rascal Flatts’ Joe Don Rooney Admires The Rolling Stones’ Ability to Evolve

CMARascal Flatts has been going strong for 15 years now, but that’s nothing compared to the 53-year career of their heroes, The Rolling Stones. The Flatts opened for the Stones on July 4 in Indianapolis, and the experience of watching their set was inspirational for Rascal Flatts guitarist Joe Don Rooney.

He tells Massachusetts’s Sun Chronicle, “I go, ‘There’s more in store for us.’ And that’s a great thing to see, a band like that that’s still hungry and still passionate, still going out and kicking a** like they are at 70 years old.”

Joe Don says that desire to evolve and be on the cutting edge of music has kept the Rolling Stones relevant all these years.

“There’s something to be learned from that if you’re willing to put in the time and the work and the passion, and you really care about it enough,” Joe Don says. “You can’t be scared to dive deep into it and try to keep evolving.”

Rascal Flatts is just one of the acts featured on ABC’s CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock special, coming up Tuesday, August 4 at 8 p.m. ET.
