High accident areas identified for Sturgis Rally

Law enforcement can’t stress the message enough – with more motorcycle traffic on the road, please use extra caution when driving.

Bikes can be hard to see and accidents tend to spike during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Extra patrols are in place to help remind people to slow down.

The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office identified the most dangerous areas traveled in Pennington County during the rally over the past three years.

High accident areas have been identified here:

385 Curve W of Hwy16

Old Hill City Road

Deadwood Ave. N and Calamity Ave curve

385 and Hwy 44 Intersection – East*

Nemo Road and Pine Dr. curve

Nemo Road/Norris Peak Rd/Pine Cone Ave curve

190/Elk Vale Rd/ Service Rd to West Gate Rd

Norris Peak Rd south of Geary Blvd curve

Norris Peak Rd and Sliding Lane

244 Curves by Rapid City

*Most fatalities have occurred on this stretch
