Anthony Geary Explains What's Next After Leaving “General Hospital”

ABC/Todd Wawrychuk(NEW YORK) — Anthony Geary has played Luke Spencer on General Hospital for nearly three decades. Until Monday, that is, when his final episode on the ABC soap opera aired.

“It is act three, curtain up, and I’m there center stage,” he told ABC’s Nightline of his new chapter.

Geary, 68, won eight Emmy awards for the role.  He also cemented his place in pop culture history when Luke wed Laura, played by Genie Francis, in the most-watched moment in daytime television history. Now, however, the actor is focused on the future, which includes a move to Amsterdam.

“[I’ll] spend the summer on my boat and my bicycle and go back into my languages classes,” he said. “I’ve been writing, so I’m going to concentrate on a book.”

He’s also looking forward to getting back to work. Geary told Nightline that while he’s fluent in Dutch, he wants to improve his language skills so that he can audition for a local theater company. His bucket list, he said, includes acting in another language.

“I would like to experience what it’s like to play an American in a Hungarian movie, or play a Hungarian in a Dutch movie,” he said. “I think that would be a fascinating experience.”
