Taylor Swift Apologizes to Nicki Minaj; Nicki Responds in Kind

It begins with Taylor’s apology to Nicki Thursday via twitter.  “I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki,” Taylor wrote.  Forty-five minutes after she posted the note, it’d been retweeted over 31,000 times.

Nicki didn’t take long to respond in kind.  Less than an hour after Taylor’s apology, Nicki tweeted, “That means so much Taylor, thank you,” followed by three heart emojis.

“I’ve always loved her. Everyone makes mistakes,” Nicki added. “She gained so much more respect from me. Let’s move on.”

You’ll remember it all started Tuesday, when Taylor responded to a tweet from Nicki in which the rapper called out the MTV Video Music Awards for allegedly “celebrating women with very slim bodies,” part of a series of tweets in which Nicki vented her frustration for her “Anaconda” video being overlooked in the Video of the Year category.

Taylor, whose “Bad Blood” video is nominated for Video of the Year, took Nicki’s comment personally and accused her of pitting women against other women, adding that she’s “done nothing but love & support” Nicki. Nicki responded by insisting the tweets weren’t directed at Taylor: “Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much.”

Even Katy Perry weighed in with a tweet that appeared to be a subtle dig at Taylor. “Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably [sic] capitalizes on the take down of a woman,” she wrote.  By the way, minutes after responding to Taylor’s apology Thursday, Nicki also blew a kiss to Katy.

Ed Sheeran came to his pal Taylor’s defense, though, telling Australia’s The Daily Telegraph: “I think everyone knows that Taylor has done nothing wrong in that situation.”

“She didn’t nominate herself for the awards,” he continued. “It’s not her fault, she just made some good videos and people think they’re good. And I think the Minaj point is a bit redundant, her point is that you have to be skinny and white to get a video of the year nomination but Beyonce’s ‘7/11’ is in there and that is celebrating the female figure in every form.”
