“Sharknado 3” Premieres Wednesday Night

Syfy(LOS ANGELES) — The Syfy phenomenon that is Sharknado is back.

A third installment of the popular TV movie series premieres Wednesday night at 9 p.m. Eastern time. In Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! Ian Ziering and Tara Reid contend with killer sharks sinking their teeth into the Eastern Seaboard and causing mass destruction.

Reid says it’s a funny experience to act in the films and react to non-existent sharks that are added later on through the magic of CGI. She explains, “[W]hen you see the movie, we’re just as curious, like, is it going to be a big shark, is it going to be that kind of shark, and for us it’s just as exciting and crazy and weird as…it is for everyone else.”

Mark McGrath, the Sugar Ray singer who appeared last year in Sharknado 2: The Second One, returns to the cast, too. He tells ABC Radio that “it takes a village” to make a Sharknado movie, though he also notes, “The bigger it gets, the less money they spend on these things, and they really get them done quickly.”

If the response to the previous two films is any indication, Sharknado 3 will be the talk of social media on Wednesday night. Will there be more sequels in the future? Ziering believes, “I think this movie has got legs for many summer events to come. Playing an action hero in a science-fiction movie is a dream come true to me.

“I’m just hoping to never get eaten,” he jokes.

Sharknado 3 also stars David Hasselhoff, Bo Derek and wrestler/rock star Chris Jericho.
