President Obama on “The Daily Show”: Jon Stewart ‘Cannot Leave’

PictureGroup(NEW YORK) — President Barack Obama wants Jon Stewart to remain as host of The Daily Show.

Obama made his seventh appearance — his third as president — with Stewart on the Comedy Central program Tuesday night. “I can’t believe that you’re leaving before me,” he quipped. “In fact, I’m issuing a new executive order that Jon Stewart cannot leave the show. It’s being challenged in the courts.”

Stewart responded, “For me, this is a states’ rights issue.”

Of course, Obama addressed more serious issues, such as the recent Iran nuclear deal. He joked that critics think if former Vice President Dick Cheney had been involved in the negotiations, “everything would be fine.”

“What we are doing is making sure that this critical problem is being resolved and recognizing that we’re still going to have more work to do,” he said of the deal.

He briefly touched upon Donald Trump, the controversial GOP presidential candidate to whom Stewart referred as the “future president.” Obama commented, “I’m sure the Republicans are enjoying Mr. Trump’s current dominance as the front-runner.”

“Anything that makes them look less crazy,” Stewart added.

Stewart says goodbye to The Daily Show on August 6. He’ll be replaced by Trevor Noah in late September.
