Bill Cosby's Lawyer Speaks: Volume of Accusations 'Does Not Make It True'

Douglas Gorenstein/NBC(NEW YORK) — For the first time, Bill Cosby attorney Monique Pressley is speaking publicly about the sexual assault accusations against her client.

“The sheer volume or number of people who are saying a particular thing does not make it true,” Pressley said on Wednesday’s Good Morning America.

Over two dozen women have accused the comedian of drugging and sexually assaulting them. Cosby has never formally been charged with sexual assault.

When asked if she feels all of the women are lying, Pressley responded, “I’m not making conclusions, and you know that I can’t, about whether someone is lying or not. What I am saying is that Mr. Cosby has denied the accusations that have been lodged thus far.”

Earlier this week ABC News obtained the full deposition from a 2005 civil case in which Cosby spoke about his affair with former Temple University employee Andrea Constand. The documents also reveal Cosby admitted to relationships with other women, including Beth Ferrier, Theresa Serignese, Shawn Thompson and Paige Young.

Pressley said admitting to relationships with these women doesn’t imply guilt in regards to the sexual assault allegations. “What we’re looking at now is a situation where we started with a man, who had not been charged with a crime, who has not been convicted of a crime, but instead has been accused of criminal activity,” said Pressley.

They attorney also said the media is taking statements from the deposition out of context, such as whenCosby admitted to procuring drugs for use in having sex with women.

“What we’re seeing so far are headlines that are grabbing one excerpt or two and then misinterpreting them,” Pressley declared. “When the deposition said that there was use of Quaaludes, which was done often in the ’70s. It was considered a party drug called disco biscuits and it was something that was used frequently, not just by Mr. Cosby, but other entertainers.”
