“Ant-Man” Stands Tall at the Box Office

Buena Vista/Marvel(LOS ANGELES) — Ant-Man came up big at the box office over the weekend.

Marvel’s latest superhero film, starring Paul Rudd as the titular character, earned an estimated 58 million dollars to open in first place. 

Ant-Man triumphed over Minions, last week’s box office champ. The animated film pulled in 50.2 million dollars to slip to the second spot.

The weekend’s other wide release, the Amy Schumer comedy Trainwreck, debuted in third place, with 30.2 million.

Here are the top 10 movies from Friday through Sunday, with estimated ticket sales, according to Rentrak:

1. Ant-Man, $58 million
2. Minions, $50.2 million
3. Trainwreck, $30.2 million
4. Inside Out, $11.7 million
5. Jurassic World, $11.4 million
6. Terminator Genisys, $5.4 million
7. Magic Mike XXL, $4.5 million
8. Gallows, $4 million
9. Ted 2, $2.7 million
10. Mr. Holmes, $2.5 million
