Alex Rocco, “The Godfather's” Moe Greene, Dead at 79

Evan Agostini/Getty Images for Yari Film Group(LOS ANGELES) — Character actor Alex Rocco died Saturday of cancer in Studio City, California, reports Variety.  He was 79.

Rocco portrayed casino owner Moe Greene in The Godfather.  In the film, he uttered the famous line, “Do you know who I am?”

Recently, he had a recurring role in Starz’s Magic City and appeared on Episodes and Maron.  His other credits include a recurring role in the 1980s series The Facts of Life, as well as roles in Starsky and Hutch and the comedy The Famous Teddy Z opposite Jon Cryer. He won a supporting actor Emmy in 1990 for the latter.

Cryer wrote of Rocco on Twitter Sunday, “I am desolate. He was the sweetest man.”

Rocco also provided voices for animated shows including The Simpsons, for which he played Roger Meyers, the executive who made Itchy and Scratchy cartoons, and Family Guy.

Rocco’s first television appearance was on Batman, and he went on to guest star in shows like The Rockford FilesThe Love BoatGet Smart and Murder, She Wrote.

He is survived by his wife, actress Shannon Wilcox; daughters Jennifer and Kelli; sons Lucien and Sean; four grandchildren; and a sister.
