“Modern Family” Executive Producer Says Pressure Comes with Emmy Success

ABC/MARIO PEREZ(LOS ANGELES) — Modern Family earned an important Emmy Award nomination Thursday.

The ABC program is a contender for outstanding comedy series. If it wins at the Emmys ceremony in September, it will set a record for most victories in the category.

Modern Family is currently tied with Frasier with five comedy series wins.

Is there any pressure that comes with that kind of success? Yes, says Modern Family co-executive producer Christopher Lloyd, who believes it’s important that the show remain at a high level.

He tells ABC Radio, “Is this going to be the season where we lose and everybody says, ‘OK, the show has turned bad all of a sudden’? And you don’t want that. And it does create even more pressure on you to kind of keep the quality up.”

Cast members Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen on Thursday received supporting actor and actress nods, respectively. Lloyd wishes other stars could’ve been similarly recognized: “[I]n past years we’ve had every member of our cast nominated and we knew certainly that that wasn’t going to last. So for some people it’s slight disappointment, but of course we’re behind Ty and Julie, who are great and so deserving of the nominations.”

Fox will air the 67th Emmy Awards live from coast to coast on Sunday, September 20, from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Andy Samberg will host.
