Caitlyn Jenner Will Be Honored at ESPYS Wednesday Night

James White/E! Entertainment(LOS ANGELES) — The ESPYS, the annual awards show for athletes presented by ESPN, will be staged Wednesday night.

The ceremony will air live from the Microsoft Theater at 8 p.m. Eastern time on ESPN’s sister network, ABC.

One of the highlights of the telecast will be Caitlyn Jenner accepting the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, an honor given to individuals whose contributions transcend sports. The former Olympic decathlon champion came out as a transgender woman earlier this year.

Executive producer Maura Mandt says Jenner exemplifies what the award is all about. She explains, “With this award and this choice it’s like…the hope is to educate and make a difference in people’s lives and say that you get to stand up and be true to who you are.”

The ESPYS will be hosted by Community star Joel McHale, who promises the show will be fun for all viewers. He says, “Look, if you really don’t like sports, this is probably not the show for you, but I would dare you to tune in, non-sports lover, and see if you’re entertained.”
