“Minions,” “Self/less,” “The Gallows” Open Friday

UniversalHere’s a look at the new movies opening nationwide Friday:

Minions — In the Despicable Me spin-off, the yellow Minions attach themselves to a female super-villain, voiced by Sandra Bullock, in the 1960s. Jon Hamm also lends his voice to the comedy. Rated PG.

Self/less — Ben Kingsley stars as a dying rich man who undergoes a procedure to transfer his consciousness into the body of a younger man, played by Ryan Reynolds. Natalie Martinez, Matthew Goode, Victor Garber, Derek Luke and Michelle Dockery also appear in the thriller. Rated PG-13.

The Gallows — Students try to commemorate the 20-year anniversary of the death of a teen during a school play by resurrecting the production, but terror ensues. Cassidy Gifford, Ryan Shoos, Reese Mishler and Pfeifer Brown star. Rated R.

Opening in limited release in New York Friday: Boulevard, a drama featuring Robin Williams’ final on-screen appearance.
