Carrie's Back! First Look at “Homeland” Season 5

Jim Fiscus/SHOWTIMEExcitement is building for the return of Homeland, and, finally, we are getting the first glimpse at the new season.

From the beginning of the just-released trailer, it’s clear that Carrie, played by Claire Danes, won’t be able to leave the CIA or Saul, played by Mandy Patinkin, for very long.

Saul can be heard saying, “You turn your back on your entire life. What are you atoning for? Keeping America safe?”

If you recall at the end of season 4, things went horribly wrong at the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan; terrorist Haqqani escaped and Carrie learned that Saul supported a deal made with Haqqani.

In season 5, the show jumps two and a half years forward, with Carrie having quit the CIA and living in Berlin, Germany, where she works as the head of security for a German philanthropist. The show is being filmed there.

But from the looks of the trailer, Carrie is being pulled back into her old world, though possibly with some new adversaries. Ukrainian actor Mark Ivanir was recently hired to play Saul’s counterpart in the Russian SVR.

Fortunately, one familiar face will be returning: Rupert Friend, who plays CIA black-ops agent Quinn. After finally sharing a passionate kiss at the end of season 4, Quinn took off for Syria.

What will happen when these two reunite, especially when Quinn meets Jonas (played by Alexander Fehling), Carrie’s new boyfriend?

Guess we’ll just have to tune in when Homeland returns to Showtime this fall.
