Wendi McLendon-Covey Says Expect More 'Snuggies' on “The Goldbergs” Season 3

ABC/Bob D’Amico(NEW YORK) — If you love the 80s, here’s good news: The Goldbergs has been renewed for a third season, and fans can expect lots more laughs from the hit ABC comedy.

Star Wendi McLendon-Covey, who portrays the overbearing matriarch Beverly on the show, told ABC’s Good Morning America we can expect more of the same from her character.

“It’s going to be more delicious snuggies from Bev, more uncomfortable mother love,” she teased.

McLendon-Covey said her role strikes close to home, because she was raised by an overbearing mother — and if she was a mother, she’d likely be the same way. “If I had kids I’d be hiding in the bushes and peeking in their classroom to make sure that no one looked at my kid cross-eyed,” she said.

One of the best parts of The Goldbergs is the retro 1980s fashion, complete with teased hair, shoulder pads and ugly sweaters. McLendon-Covey said although it makes for laughs onscreen, on set it’s a different story.  “I feel just as uncomfortable as I did in the 80s,” she said, laughing. “Just like I can’t move. Oh, and do I look like a clown? Yes I do. Okay! Great!”

The Goldbergs returns for season three September 23 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern.
