Rosie Perez Tearfully Confirms Her Departure on “The View”

ABC/ Lou Rocco(NEW YORK) — Rosie Perez confirmed on Wednesday’s The View that she’s leaving the program to continue acting.

“I’ve decided that it’s time to move on,” the Oscar-nominated actress said through tears. “And I would say that today is very bittersweet for me. I’m excited for what is to come but I am so sad to leave The View.

While holding co-host Nicolle Wallace’s hand, Perez thanked the fans, producers and staff of the long-running daytime program. She also reflected on how The View helped her career since she joined the panel in September 2014. “To be part of such an iconic show that has opened me up to a broader audience, I will be forever grateful for that,” she said.

Perez is also returning to another love: boxing.  She’s known as the “First Lady of Boxing” for being one of the biggest female fans of the sport, and after serving as the grand marshal of the International Boxing Hall of Fame parade in 2013.

“To the boxing world, I’m back! Thank God!” said Perez, who then teased, “And I look forward to working with ESPN for coming up fights.”

Perez, who’s currently starring in the Broadway play Fish in the Dark, will remain on The View until the end of the season. Her replacement on the panel has yet to be officially announced.
