Laura Linney Sheds Light on “Mr. Holmes”

Giles Keyte/Roadside Attractions(NEW YORK) — There’s another film taking on the iconic sleuth, Sherlock Holmes. This time, it’s Mr. Holmes.

Star Laura Linney shed more light on the period drama, based on Mitch Cullin’s 2005 novel A Slight Trick of the Mind.  “Ian McKellen plays Sherlock Holmes as a 93-year-old man. So it’s what happens to Sherlock later in his life,” she said on Wednesday’s Live with Kelly and Michael.

Linney portrays a housekeeper, Mrs. Munro, who lives with Sherlock in his Sussex farmhouse.  “I have a young son, a 10-year-old son, and they form a relationship and they, together, try and solve a mystery that has been haunting Sherlock for a while,” the Golden Globe-winning actress said of her character.

Although it’s her first time starring opposite McKellen onscreen, Linney said she’s known the acting legend for some time.  “I’ve known Ian on and off as a fond acquaintance, but now we were able to make this movie together and I can claim him as my own,” she said.

Mr. Holmes, also starring Milo Parker as the young Roger Munro, is in theaters July 17.
