(NEW YORK) — Paula Deen is right about one thing: she’s got some explaining to do.
The chef landed in another racial controversy Tuesday after posting a picture to her Twitter account of herself with her son, Bobby, dressed as I Love Lucy stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. The thing is, Bobby is in brownface. The caption on the since-deleted tweet reads, “Lucyyyyyyy! You got a lot of esplainin’ to do!”
The New York Post‘s Page Six clarified that although the photo was posted to Twitter Tuesday, it’s actually from the former Food Network star’s 2011 Halloween special. The photo also includes producer Gordon Elliott, who produced Deen’s Food Network shows.
Many on social media were still quick to respond to the photo, asking why Bobby felt the need to darken his skin to portray Cuban bandleader leader Ricky Ricardo, Arnaz’s onscreen character.
So far, neither Paula or Bobby Deen have responded.
The flap comes after charges of racial insensitivity by Paula Deen after she admitted in a deposition that she’d used the N-word in the past, She subsequently lost her Food Network TV show in 2013, as well asnumerous sponsors.
