TV Land Pulls “Dukes of Hazzard” Reruns from Schedule

CBS Photo Archive/Getty ImagesThe General Lee will no longer race across your TV screens — at least not on TV Land.  The cable network has pulled re-runs of the show from its schedule.

“We can confirm that we removed Dukes of Hazzard from the schedule. We have no further comment,” a TV Land rep tells ABC Radio.

TV Land hasn’t revealed why the show was pulled, but the move comes amid the growing debate in the U.S. about the display of the Confederate flag, in the wake of last month’s racially-motivated shootings at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC.  The signature 1969 Dodge Charger that’s so central to The Dukes of Hazzard has the Confederate flag painted on its roof, and is named the General Lee, after Confederate Army General Robert E. Lee.

Several states have removed Confederate flags and other symbols from public places in the wake of the Charleston shootings, while South Carolina is currently debating whether to remove the flag from the statehouse grounds.  Many retailers have followed suit, no longer selling items that feature the Confederate flag.  Just last week, Warner Bros. said it would no longer license products featuring the General Lee.
