Joe Manganiello Reveals How He Put His Own Touch on “Magic Mike XXL”

ABC/Lou Rocco(NEW YORK) — Joe Manganiello reprises his role as a male stripper in his latest film, Magic Mike XXL. Although the actor worked with choreographers on his stripping routines in the sequel, he did have input on one important aspect of those routines.

“I did get to pick my own music in this film,” he said on ABC’s Good Morning America Monday. “So there’s a Nine Inch Nails song…during my finale routine, which is probably my favorite band of all time.”

Manganiello said it was great to reunite with the cast, including Channing Tatum and Matt Bomer.

“Most movies when you don’t work, you’re not there that day. Nobody shows up to work on their day off, but on this one everybody did,” Manganiello explained. “It was like a big party and you just didn’t want to miss anything.”

The actor, who will reportedly wed Sofia Vergara later this year, added it was also great to be back with the cast on set, especially since they didn’t know 2012’s Magic Mike would even get a sequel.

“We didn’t know what was gonna happen,” Manganiello said. “We shot the first movie as this little…indie movie that could, but as soon as it was successful the number-one reason to come back and do a sequel was the brotherhood. We’re really a family, or a team, if you will. And just getting together and hanging out with those guys for a several months was worth it.”

Magic Mike XXL, also starring Jada Pinkett Smith and Michael Strahan, opens July 1.
