(LOS ANGELES) — Tommy Chong revealed earlier this week he is battling rectal cancer. He jokingly calls the diagnosis “a pain in the butt,” but he’s keeping a positive attitude.
Speaking with ABC Radio on Thursday, the 77-year-old comedian said he’s not scared because, “I know that life doesn’t end just because the body gets put in the ground. The soul is forever, is eternal. So, I know that, and that’s the comforting thing.”
Chong said his cancer, which he describes as “in stage one,” will be treated with chemo and radiation — and, not surprisingly, marijuana, in the form of suppositories.
He said of his doctors, “I don’t tell them I smoke, we don’t talk about that. That’s a no-no, but as far as the treating it with the suppositories and that, they’re all for it.”
He explained the suppositories provide a “manageable high.”
Chong previously battled stage-one prostate cancer in 2012.
