Sam Smith Finally Gets His Grammys, Plans to “Sing His Heart Out” for Fans Following Surgery

ABC/Randy HolmesBack in February, pop superstar Sam Smith won four Grammy Awards.  Well, we don’t want to say the mail is slow or anything but he finally received them just yesterday.

Sam posted a photo on Instagram of himself looking perplexed with his four statuettes — Record of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album and Song of the Year — spread out in front of him.  “It’s all feeling a little real now..,” he wrote.

Why did it take so long?  Because the Grammys you see artists posing with backstage the night of the awards show are just props: the real ones, with the names and categories engraved on them, are shipped to the artists later.

Back in March, Sam told London’s Capital FM radio, “I haven’t actually got them.  It’s hard for me to think of myself as a Grammy Award winner without the Grammys.”  He also said that he’d like to use them as “a doorstop or a toothbrush holder or something.”

Yesterday was a big day for Sam.  He appeared on BBC Radio 1 to show off the fact that, after weeks of silence following vocal cord surgery, he’s capable of speaking, and then posted a video message to his fans on Twitter.

“As you can see I can speak again for the first time in three weeks,” Sam says in the message. “And it’s been horrible and sitting in silence and knowing that I should be doing shows has killed me, but finally I have some good news, and that’s that I’ll be starting all my shows up from the third of July and it’s all as planned and I’m gonna try my absolute best to sing my heart out for you every night. Please bear with me as always and I love you all!”
