“Spy” Infiltrates Top Spot at Box Office

FoxI spy a number-one movie for Melissa McCarthy.

McCarthy’s new comedy, Spy, opened in first place over the weekend, earning an estimated 30 million dollars.

Last week’s top film, the earthquake thriller San Andreas, slipped to the second spot, collecting 26.4 million dollars.

The horror prequel Insidious: Chapter 3 rounded out the top three, with a 23-million-dollar debut.

The film version of Entourage didn’t live up to the hype that preceded it — at least not at the box office. It bowed in fourth place, raising just 10.4 million dollars over the weekend. It has made 17.8 million since it hit theaters last Wednesday.

Here are the top 10 movies from Friday through Sunday, with estimated ticket sales, according to Rentrak:

1. Spy, $30 million.
2. San Andreas, $26.4 million.
3. Insidious: Chapter 3, $23 million.
4. Entourage, $10.4 million.
5. Mad Max: Fury Road, $8 million.
6. Pitch Perfect 2, $7.7 million.
7. Tomorrowland, $7 million.
8. Avengers: Age of Ultron, $6.2 million.
9. Aloha, $3.3 million.
10. Poltergeist, $2.8 million.
