“Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Goes Online

Mark Davis/NBC(NEW YORK) — The countdown to Stephen Colbert’s debut as host of CBS’ Late Show on September 8 got underway with the launch of the show’s website, iPhone app, and Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Google+ accounts.

The website will feature the latest behind-the-scenes news about the upcoming show, videos and podcasts from Colbert, photos and viewer polls. The Colbr app for iOS, will offer videos and radio podcasts from Colbert, as well at his personal Twitter feed, @StephenAtHome. Both platforms will be updated throughout the summer, leading up to the show’s premiere.

“Say what you will about the Internet, I think it’s here to stay!” says Colbert.

“Launching ColbertLateShow.com puts me in the same league as Google.com, Facebook.com and ferretfancier.blogspot.com!” Colbert quipped in a video posted to the new website.

In the clip, the 51-year-old former Daily Show correspondent and host of The Colbert Report, both on Comedy Central, sporting a beard, declares he needs to “find a new look” for his upcoming show and shaves the beard off in stages: the “Un-Hitler” — a full beard, minus the center of the mustache; the Amish beard; one mutton chop sideburn dubbed the “Half-Wolverine”; and finally clean-shaven.

Upon learning the show doesn’t debut for three months, he makes the full beard reappear.

Colbert replaces David Letterman, who retired as host in May after a 33-year late night career.
