Helen Sloan/HBO(NEW YORK) — When fans saw the trailer for Kit Harington’s latest film, Testament of Youth, they freaked out online. The Game of Thrones actor, known for his dark long locks, was featured in the trailer with a short ‘do.
Still, they didn’t need to fear. The new haircut was thanks to a wig.
Harington told the New York Post‘s Page Six at the film’s premiere, that he didn’t understand the outrage from fans. “It always surprises me how much people care,” he added. “I don’t understand it, frankly, but then again, I don’t pay much attention to the Internet.”
Harington said his short locks were necessary for the period film. “You want to be able to adapt as an actor,” he continued. “At the moment I’m having to rock a certain look.”
In Testament of Youth, Harington portrays Roland Leighton, the fiance of Vera Brittain, played by Alicia Vikander. When Leighton is sent off to fight in World War I, Brittain leaves her studies at Oxford to become a war nurse. The film will be released in the U.S. Friday.
