“The Game” Returns for Ninth and Final Season Wednesday Night on BET

BET(NEW YORK) — The clock has finally wound down on BET’s football dramedy The Game, which begins airing its ninth and final season Wednesday night.

“We had an amazing ride,” Wendy Raquel Robinson, who stars as Tasha Mack on the series, tells ABC Radio. “It’s kind of unreal that it’s coming to an end.”

The cast, which also includes Hosea Chanchez, Coby Bell, Brandy Norwood, Jay Ellis and Lauren London, have already wrapped production on the series, Robinson says.

“I feel like it’s so iconic. And I feel like I’m leaving behind a legacy that I’m so proud of,” she says of the series. “And I’m proud of the work we’ve done and I’m proud of the evolution of the show. It’s bittersweet. It really is. It’s bittersweet, but I think it’s time that we go out on top.”

The Game creator Mara Brock Akil tells ABC Radio she’s also glad the series is ending properly, compared to her other defunct show, Girlfriends, which ended abruptly in 2008.

“It’s a blessing to be able to say goodbye,” she says. “You create shows knowing that they’re not gonna last forever. It’s always bittersweet to say goodbye, but compared to my experience on Girlfriends to know that you’re going to end it [is good] so you can enjoy the rest of [it] and sometimes you’re gonna cry through the process.”

So what can fans expect from Wednesday night’s season opener?  Robinson says of her character, “Tasha Mack I wouldn’t say is stuck in a love triangle. I think she’s trying to smooth it out into a rectangle. The four people being Rick Fox, Pookie, my baby Kai and myself. She’s come to grips that either she’s going to be a single mom, or she’s gonna end up with someone and it’ll be a family. I can honestly say she has a fairy-tale ending.”

The final season of The Game premieres Wednesday at 10 p.m. Eastern on BET.
