Mariah Carey Calls “American Idol” 'Boring' and 'Fake'

Frank Micelotta/FOX(LOS ANGELES) — Mariah Carey did not have a pleasant experience during her brief stint as a judge on American Idol. During an interview with an Australian radio show earlier today, she made her feelings abundantly clear, calling the competition series “boring” and “fake.”

When asked by hosts Kyle and Jackie O if she would consider appearing on American Idol for its final season next year, she replied, “Hell no. Absolutely not. That was the worst experience of my life.”

She continued, “I’m not gonna get into what it was, but let’s just say I don’t think they had any intentions for us to have a good experience doing that show. Pitting two females against each other wasn’t cool. It should have been about the contestants.”

She was referring to the so-called feud between her and fellow judge Nicki Minaj during their time on the show’s 12th season in 2013.

Mariah also said she took issue with the fact that judges would have to exaggerate their comments to the contestants. “I mean, it’s so boring and so fake,” she said. “I’m sorry, I just think it’s, you know, when I say it’s fake, I mean, it’s just like, you have to make up things to say about people. Half the time, the performances are good, you just be like ‘It was good.’ You just feel like ending it there, like, ‘It’s really good.'”
