David Letterman Goes Out on High Ratings Note

Jeffrey R. Staab/CBS(NEW YORK) — David Letterman’s Late Show swan song brought in big ratings for CBS.

Wednesday night’s broadcast of Late Show, which marked the end of Letterman’s 33-year run on late-night TV, averaged 13.76 million viewers. It was the program’s largest audience since February of 1994, when an episode of Late Show followed CBS coverage of the Winter Olympics.

The Letterman finale boosted the audience for The Late Late Show with James Corden, which averaged four million viewers, the program’s biggest-ever audience with any host.

Stephen Colbert succeeds Letterman as Late Show host in September.
