ABC/Ida Mae Astute(NEW YORK) — Rebel Wilson has been at the center of a controversy recently after Australia’s Woman’s Day reported the Pitch Perfect 2 star has been lying about her age.
On Wednesday, The Sydney Morning Herald backed the magazine’s accusation, citing business records filed with the Australian Securities and Investment Commission that show Wilson — who’s previously stated that she was 29 years old — was born in 1980, making her actual age 35.
Apparently, the Aussie actress’ name is an issue, too; she has said Rebel isn’t a stage name. However, People magazine notes the Australian Electoral Roll lists her birth name as Melanie Elizabeth Bownds, though she later changed her last name to Wilson.
Then again, the Australian Securities and Investment Commission reportedly had her name as “Rebel Melanie Elizabeth Wilson.”
Rebel commented on the controversy earlier in the week, tweeting, “OMG I’m actually a 100 year old mermaid formerly known as ‘CC Chalice’ ….thanks shady Australian press for your tall poppy syndrome x.”
Wilson reprises her role of Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect 2 in theaters now.
