“The Voice” Recap: The Winner Is…

Trae Patton/NBC(LOS ANGELES) — Pharrell Williams triumphed in the eighth-season finale of The Voice on Tuesday night.

An artist from his team, 16-year-old contemporary folk musician Sawyer Fredericks, was declared the winner during a two-hour results show. The teen from upstate New York receives a recording contract.

Sawyer closed the broadcast by reprising the original song he debuted the previous night, “Please,” written by Ray LaMontagne.

This is Pharrell’s first win as a coach on the NBC competition.

Meghan Linsey of Team Blake Shelton was the runner-up. Team Adam Levine’s Joshua Davis finished third. Team Pharrell’s Koryn Hawthorne ended up in fourth.

The finale was filled with musical performances. Sawyer teamed up with John Fogerty on a Creedence Clearwater Revival medley. Meghan joined forces with Kelly Clarkson on Kelly’s “Invincible.” Joshua collaborated with Sheryl Crow on Sheryl’s “Give It To Me.” Koryn and Kelly Clarkson covered Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind.”

Each finalist also delivered a “bring back” performance, in which he or she invited eliminated contestants to join them on stage. Sawyer sang Jonny Lang’s “Lie to Me” with Brooke Adee, Lowell Oakley and Mia Z. Meghan and Sarah Potenza took on Janis Joplin’s “Piece Of My Heart.” Joshua brought back Brian Johnson, Deanna Johnson, Corey Kent White and Kimberly Nichole for The Black Crowes’ “She Talks to Angels.” Koryn welcomed Lexi Dávila, Tonya Boyd-Cannon, Caitlin Caporale, Mia Z and India Carney for “Uptown Funk.”

Viewers were also treated to Ed Sheeran performing his song “Photograph”; Meghan Trainor singing “Dear Future Husband”; Luke Bryan entertaining with “Kick the Dust Up”; and Adam Levine’s band,Maroon 5, playing their new single, “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt Like A Motherf****r.”

All four coaches paid tribute to the late B.B. King with a rendition of “The Thrill Is Gone.”

The Voice will return for its ninth season in the fall.
