“Mad Men” Ends Seven-Season Run with…Coke

Justina Mintz/AMC(NEW YORK) — SPOILER ALERT!

After seven seasons, AMC’s Mad Men ended Sunday night with Don Draper on a yoga-type retreat in California…and then possibly creating the concept for an iconic commercial.

Don, played by Jon Hamm, continued his trip out West by meeting up with Anna Draper’s niece. He joined her for the retreat, which culminated with a man sharing an emotional story of how he felt unloved and unappreciated. He and Don hugged one another and sobbed together.

Later, we see Don smiling while practicing yoga. The episode ended with footage of the famous 1971 “I’d Like to Buy the World a Coke” commercial. Does this mean Don returned to McCann Erickson and was behind the ad? We don’t know for sure, but that seemed to be the implication.

Don’s lone interaction with an office colleague came in a phone call to Peggy. When she asked him if he would come back to work on the Coke campaign, he replied, “I messed everything up. I’m not the man you think I am,” referring in part to the way he assumed another man’s identity.

Speaking of Peggy, she finally found romance with Stan after he confessed his feelings for her.

As for the others in the finale, Roger was set to marry Marie, a.k.a. Megan’s mom; Pete left for a new job; Joan started her own company, but lost Richard, who felt her work was affecting their relationship; and Betty, whose cancer diagnosis was revealed to Don by their daughter Sally, attempted to live life as normally as possible.
