“Pitch Perfect 2” Beats Expectations at Weekend Box Office

Universal(NEW YORK) — The cast of Pitch Perfect 2 was perfectly in tune to dominate the domestic box office for the film’s opening weekend.

The comedy sequel to the 2012 hit about a female acapella group directed by Elizabeth Banks, shattered expectations and opened to an estimated $70.3 million. The opening is more than the first movie made in the U.S. during its entire run in theaters.

Mad Max: Fury Road
opened to an estimated $44.4 million.

The two highly-anticipated releases bumped Avengers: Age of Ultron down to third place.
