Stars Celebrating Their First Mother's Day

Kevin Winter / iStock / Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — This Mother’s Day takes on a new meaning for Hollywood’s first-time moms.

That is, unless you’re Eva Mendes.

“There is no plan,” the actress, who welcomed daughter Esmeralda with Ryan Gosling, told Access Hollywood on Tuesday. “I kind of feel like I haven’t quite earned my stripes yet, in a way. She’s seven months [old].”

Mendes does plan to celebrate her own mom, however.

“This Mother’s Day is definitely all about my mom. She’s had a really hard year. My brother’s sick, so it’s all about my mom, honoring her,” the star said. “We’re all going to go over to her house and bombard her with love.”

Whether or not she celebrates Mother’s Day herself, Mendes is among a slew of stars who have welcomed their first child in the last year. Check out these other star moms celebrating their first Mother’s Day and what they’ve said about becoming a mother.

Carrie Underwood

American Idol winner Carrie Underwood and her hockey-star husband, Mike Fisher, welcomed son Isaiah Michael Fisher on Feb. 27.

Soon after, she was celebrating her own birthday, March 10, with a sense of humor.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!” she tweeted. “My 1st present = late night date with a tiny semi-bald chubby dude who likes to grunt & cry & pass gas! #bestgiftever”

The country star was already relaxing ahead of Mother’s Day. Earlier in the week, she posted a bikini-selfie on Instagram, captioning it, “Vacation selfie. #IKnowImLame.”

Blake Lively

Blake Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds welcomed their first baby, daughter James, late last year.

Since becoming a mom, the actress’s life has been completely transformed. For one thing, breastfeeding, she said, has been all-consuming.

It’s “a full-time job,” Lively told Allure magazine. “I’m, like, driving down the road, pumping.”

Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana welcomed twin boys, Cy and Bowie, with husband Marco Perego in November.

While she has said she’s “enjoying every minute” of motherhood, the 36-year-old actress has also been candid about her struggle to get back in shape and adjust to taking care of twins.

“Yes, by far, the most amazing experience of my life, but also a very challenging experience when it pertains to my body. I’m sure moms across the world (and dads sometimes) can identify with what I’m about to say,” she wrote on Facebook.

“Bouncing back feels impossible, but I know it is important as a woman, and now a mommy, to not give up. I am determined to get my energy back and find balance for my body before these little guys start walking, and before I go back to work….. my clock is ticking!” she wrote.

Mila Kunis

In February, Mila Kunis opened up on Reddit about becoming a mother to daughter Wyatt last fall with fiancé Ashton Kutcher.

“I am proud to be a stay-at-home mom. I have no desire to be in front of the camera,” she said in the online Q&A. “I find her to be the most challenging job I’ve had.”

She went on: “It is the most life-changing experience you can have, in my opinion. EVERYTHING changed. The amount of love that you have, the type of love that you have, changes, the way you look at the world changes … everything has changed, because of her. I want an ecofriendly car, I want to compost everything, because I want the world to be better for her. And you have the opportunity to make a really great child for the world. Or a really great human being.”

Stacy Keibler

George Clooney’s ex Stacy Keibler and her husband, Future Ads CEO Jared Pobre, welcomed daughter Ava last August.

Posting a photo of her and Ava on her blog in December, Keibler wrote, “Life can be unpredictable. You feel one way, and then…boom! You need to entirely change your perspective. That is certainly what happened to me this past year. Until I started dating Jared, the idea of being married and having a family was never on my radar. I was just hoping that the right love would find me.”

She went on to say that Pobre turned out to be her soulmate and that “Ava has graced us with such joy, such light and such love — we never saw it coming. She is our special little lady, and I couldn’t be more thankful for how she has opened my heart.”

Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel and husband Justin Timberlake welcomed their first child, son Silas Randall Timberlake, last month.

Two weeks later, Timberlake posted a first photo of Silas, wearing a shirt that said Memphis Grizzles, the basketball team for which the singer is a part owner.

“The Timberlakes are ready!!! GO GRIZZ! #GritNGrind #Playoffs #BabyGrizzROAR,” Timberlake wrote.

Jill Dillard

Though she’s a big sister to 15 siblings, Jill Dillard said motherhood is a lot different than she expected.

“There are a lot of things that seem different than I thought they would be,” Jill, 23, who gave birth to son Israel David on April 6, told People magazine. “I have just asked my mom a lot of questions about what is normal and what to expect.”

Dillard’s mom is something of an expert. Michelle Duggar has 19 kids with husband Jim Bob, and they are the stars of the TLC series, 19 Kids and Counting.

Chelsea Clinton

Chelsea Clinton and husband Marc Mezvinsky welcomed daughter Charlotte last September. Since then, the former president’s daughter said her life hasn’t been the same.

“Marc and I are like, ‘What did we do before we were parents?’ My whole life is reoriented around my daughter in the most blessed sense,” Clinton told the May issue of Elle. “I now understand — this is something else that Marc and I talk about all the time — all of the enthusiastic, bombastically spectacular, wonderful things people say about their children, because we also feel and think all those things about Charlotte — that she is just the most remarkable little bubbly, perfect, chunky monkey creature ever.”

Hayden Panettiere

Hayden Panettiere began her life as a mom after welcoming daughter Kaya last December with fiancé Wladimir Klitschko.

Last month, she told Good Morning America that being a mom was like an out-of-body experience.

“[It’s] out of body,” the Nashville star, 25, noted. “As you know. You know what it’s like. As long as your kids are happy and healthy and all good — it’s fabulous.”

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson and her fiancé, Romain Dauriac, welcomed daughter Rose in September.

“It’s wonderful, and exhausting,” Johansson told Barbara Walters in December. “The love is just unbelievable. It’s very overwhelming.”

Johansson said she cares for her daughter herself, from changing diapers to breast-feeding.

“The whole bit,” she said. “I’m nursing, and I love it, I love it. It’s the best way to get back in shape.”

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson said her world has changed “in the most awesome way” since she became a wife and mother of three.

“My whole life took a big 180,” the American Idol winner told People in February. “I never thought I was going to be a mom, so it’s very much changed my world in the most awesome way.”

After Clarkson, 32, married husband Brandon Blackstock, 38, in October 2013, she became a stepmom to his two children, Savannah, 13, and Seth, 8. Then, in June 2014, the couple welcomed their own daughter, River Rose, now 8 months old.

“I love what I do, but I feel like I relied on my career a lot for my self-worth. And now I’m more than that,” the pop star told People. “I’m a mother and a wife and have this whole other thing going on.”
