“Modern Family”’s Sofia Vergara Gets a Star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame

ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — Sofia Vergara, famous for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the popular ABC sitcom Modern Family, was honored Thursday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The ceremony was attended by her Modern Family family, including the sitcom’s co-creator Steve Levitan who, in reference to the classic TV show I Love Lucy, hailed the Colombian-born actress as “Lucy and Ricky with a touch of Sophia Loren.”

“And when you consider that she’s funny in her second language, it’s doubly impressive,” he added.

In turn, Vergara thanked Levitan and co-creator Christopher Lloyd, noting, “If they had not invented Gloria Pritchett I wouldn’t be here.”

The 42-year-old actress went on to declare, “I owe everything that I’ve been able to do in the American market to this amazing character.”

“I am always going to remember this in my life,” she told the crowd.

Vergara also thanked her real-life family, telling the crowd that money and fame would be worthless without people around her to share in her success. “What do you do with a star in Hollywood if you cannot go and brag with them that you got it?,” she joked.

Modern Family co-star Eric Stonestreet praised Vergara for being “one of the most authentic, hard-working, true-to-herself women” that he’s ever met.

Stonestreet, who plays Cameron Tucker, one of the show’s gay characters, also teased Vergara’s wardrobe noting, “I mean, don’t get me wrong, she is fancy. She has a lot of purses. She has a lot of shoes. She also has a lot of heart and she smells really good too,” he added.

Vergara can be seen on the big screen, beginning Friday, in the action comedy Hot Pursuit. She plays the widow of a drug boss who is protected by an inept cop, played by Reese Witherspoon.

Modern Family
