ABC Picks Up New Dramas and Comedies for Next Season

Viola Davis (r) with Shonda Rhymes. ABC/Ida Astute(NEW YORK) — ABC has ordered several new drama series for next season, including the thriller, The Catch, from Shonda Rhimes. 

Entertainment Weekly reports The Catch is about fraud investigator Alice Martin, played by Mirelle Enos. She becomes the victim of fraud by her fiancé, played by Damon Dayoub.

The other series include, Of Kings and Prophets, an epic Biblical saga as told through the eyes of a king, a prophet and a young shepherd.

Quantico centers on a group of recruits training at the FBI Quantico Base.  They are supposed to be the best of the best, but one of them is suspected of masterminding the biggest attack on New York City since 9/11.

The Family tells the story of a politician’s young son who mysteriously goes missing and is presumed dead.  Ten years later, he reappears and is welcomed back into his family, but suspicions emerge about his true identity.

The series Wicked City follows a different period of Los Angeles history each season. The series kicks off with a Sunset Strip murder case from 1982.

The final project remains untitled, but tells the story of Billy and Cody Lefever, who move to North Dakota, which is booming after the biggest American oil discovery ever. They’re soon facing off with an evil tycoon who forces them to bet big and put everything on the line, including their marriage. The series stars Don Johnson and Chace Crawford.

Along with the new drama series, ABC has also ordered three new comedy series for next season, reports DeadlineThe Real O’Neals, follows a Catholic family that has a gay son who comes out.  The Real O’Neals stars Martha Plimpton, Jay R. Ferguson, Noah Galvin,  Mathew Shively, Bebe Wood and Mary Hollis.

Dr. Ken is about a brilliant physician who has absolutely no bedside manner. He drives his co-workers and family completely nuts. Dr. Ken is played by Hangover actor, Ken Jeong.

As previously reported, ABC will also air The Muppets, which is being described as a more adult-oriented, documentary-style Muppet show that will explore the personal lives and relationships of the Muppets.

With the exception of the supernatural drama Resurrection, the drama Forever and the comedy Cristela, all of ABC’s current shows are coming back, according to Deadline. That includes eight freshmen series: How To Get Away With Murder, black-ish, American Crime, Secrets & Lies, Fresh Off The Boat, Galavant, Agent Carter and the unscripted Shark Tank spinoff Beyond The Tank

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is also returning, along with Castle, Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and Nashville.

ABC’s entire Wednesday comedy lineup, including The Goldbergs, The Middle and Modern Family will be back as well. Once Upon a Time and the reality shows Dancing with the Stars, Shark Tank and The Bachelor are also all returning.
