The former Colbert Report host, a product of the South Carolina public school system, announced Thursday that he is going to help to fund every grant request on the crowd-funding site, DonorsChoose.org from local public school teachers.

Colbert auctioned off the desk and other set pieces from his former show after The Colbert Report‘s run ended in December.

Colbert, 50, who is set to take over The Late Show later this year, and his partners will help more than 800 teachers at over 375 schools buy the things they need to help their students, according to the Greenville News. The donations will total $800,000, the newspaper reported.

“I’m so excited to announce we are funding all 1,000 South Carolina projects on DonorsChoose.org today,” Colbert said, according to a press release from the South Carolina Department of Education.

He then joined a Google Hangout video conference with at least one of the South Carolina schools that will benefit from his goodwill.

“I commend Stephen, Share Fair Nation, and Greenville’s own ScanSource for the support that they have given the dedicated and hardworking teachers of South Carolina through this gracious gift,” State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman said. “I know these teachers will use it in a way that improves the quality of education for South Carolina’s students.”
