“Game of Thrones” Star's “Force Awakens” Character Revealed; Boba Fett Movie Rumors

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic for HBO(NEW YORK) — One of the reveals in the new Vanity Fair cover story about Star Wars: The Force Awakens is that Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie is the character that is glimpsed in the teaser wearing head-to-toe chromed-out Stormtrooper armor.

The magazine also revealed her character is Captain Phasma, an officer of the First Order, the villainous army that rose after the Empire fell in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. The J.J. Abrams-directed Force Awakens will be released on Dec. 18, 2015.

In other Star Wars news, TheWrap reports the second Star Wars “Anthology” movie will center on the origins of bounty hunter Boba Fett, although Disney and Lucasfilm are remaining mum. The mysterious, jetpack-wearing character first made a big-screen appearance in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back, and despite only a handful of lines in that film — and an inglorious end in Jedi — he became a fan favorite. The movie is set for a 2018 release.

The first standalone anthology film, Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars: Rogue One, which will star Felicity Jones, will hit theaters in 2016.

Lucasfilm is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
