Fox Renews “The Simpsons” for an Additional Two Seasons

FOX(NEW YORK) — Here’s some news that will have fans of The Simpsons yelling, “Woohoo!”

Fox announced Monday it has renewed the animated series for its 27th and 28th seasons.

The network released a “statement” from Homer Simpson that reads, “I’ve outlasted Letterman, Jon Stewart and ‘McDreamy,’ because I have something they don’t: a costly 200-donut-a-day addiction.”

David Letterman and Jon Stewart are both leaving their late-night shows this year, while “McDreamy,” the character played by Patrick Dempsey on Grey’s Anatomy, was killed off the ABC drama two weeks ago.

The Simpsons, which premiered in late 1989, is the longest-running scripted show in television history. It will have aired 625 episodes by the end of its 28th season.

The current 26th season is averaging six million viewers per episode, according to Fox.
