Reese Witherspoon Brings the Laughs in “Hot Pursuit”

ABC(NEW YORK) — Reese Witherspoon is back on the big screen in the comedy Hot Pursuit, playing a police officer who must escort a witness, played by Sofia Vergara, to a federal trial. Although Vergara is difficult onscreen, Witherspoon said off-screen, she was a delight to work with.

“I was such a huge fan of her on Modern Family and when I got to actually sit with her and we started talking about what kind of movie we want to make together, I was just so charmed by her,” said Witherspoon on Monday’s Good Morning America. “She’s just as lovely in person as she seems on TV.”

In the film, the two travel from San Antonio to Dallas, and things get a bit rough along the way.

“Oh my gosh. We had fight scenes. And yeah, she would throw me around the room and I ended up in the emergency room one night,” Witherspoon admitted. “They were just like, ‘Did somebody shake you really hard because…?’ I said, ‘Yes! Sofia Vergara.'”

Witherspoon not only starred in Hot Pursuit: it’s also the third film, following Gone Girl and Wild, produced by her production company, Pacific Standard. Witherspoon said she’s trying to make more female-oriented movies that portray women positively.

“I have a daughter, who’s almost 16, and it’s so important to me that she sees herself onscreen,” said Witherspoon, “and there’s little girls out there like her that want to see themselves.”

Hot Pursuit is in theaters Friday.
