Jeremy Renner Sings About His “Avengers” Character's Not-So Super Powers

Douglas Gorenstein/NBC(NEW YORK) — Jeremy Renner visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Tuesday to plug his new movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron, which opens Friday. Renner also got to show off his vocal skills by singing a song about the not-quite-so super powers of his Avengers’ archer character, Hawkeye.

Renner, in costume as Hawkeye, sat behind a piano and sang a tune in which he tried to prove why his character is just as cool as his Avengers teammates, Iron Man, Hulk and Captain America.

“I get gassed at Mario Cart; this year I played an extra in Paul Blart; and I can open a pickle jar. Frickin’ Hawkeye, maybe I’m as super as they are,” he crooned.

The tune was sung to Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.”

It turns out singing is a talent Renner has kept a secret from fans for years. After Renner’s performance, Fallon told the audience he had tried in the past, unsuccessfully, to convince the 44-year-old actor to sing on the show. Renner explained he had always been “terrified” of singing in front of people and admitted, “I’m sweaty now just from doing that.”

Renner said he attempted to get over his stage fright by singing in karaoke bars. “For 10 years I would go sing karaoke,” he told Fallon. “I knew I could sing a note or two, but I was always terrified,” he explained.

When asked if he still visits karaoke bars, Renner replied, “No, not anymore,” explaining, “It ends up on YouTube and you got lots of problems.”

Avengers: Age of Ultron opens nationwide Friday.
