“Daredevil” Star Talks Fan Reaction, Season 2, and Joining “The Avengers”

Michael Tullberg/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — In an interview with the website Close-Up Film, Daredevil star Charlie Cox admits while he hadn’t read any comics before he was cast as blind lawyer/superhero vigilante Matt Murdock, he’s now a voracious fan of the hero’s “incredible back-catalogue.”

Cox explained it was important that the just-released Netflix show — which has just been renewed for a second season — worked for both die-hard fans and, “an audience that didn’t necessarily grow up on comics and superhero films,” who can still appreciate it as a crime drama.

The actor enthused, “I love this show and I love being on it and I was so impressed with the execution and the resolve of the creators is a bonus, and the fact that it’s been well received obviously makes you feel very good.”

Cox is looking forward to season 2 — and maybe a big screen bow of his “Man Without Fear” alongside the other Avengers. “It’d be great. I’ve read [the] Civil War [comic series]…I know [Daredevil’s] in there but I think I missed the boat on [Captain America: Civil War] because they’re filming that [now]. That 2016 Marvel Studios film pits Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man against Chris Evans’ Captain America, and features a slew of heroes on both sides, including Spider-Man.

However, Cox, like Murdock, is keeping his ears open. “It’s in my contract that if they want me to do it, I’m there, and I would love that. That would be an extension of the dream, but I’m a pretty happy customer at this point, to get to do the series again.”

Marvel is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
