Watch Robert Downey Jr. Walk Out of Awkward Interview

ABC/Ida Mae Astute(LONDON) — Robert Downey Jr. would rather not talk about his troubled past while promoting his new movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron.

That was made clear during an awkward interview with Downey conducted by Krishnan Guru-Murthy for Britain’s Channel 4. The conversation was tame for the first few minutes, with Downey fielding questions about his Iron Man character and the Avengers sequel.

However, Downey clearly became uncomfortable once Guru-Murthy began peppering him with questions regarding a 2008 New York Times article in which he commented on how his jail stint influenced his political point of view.

A seemingly bewildered Downey smiled at first, and eventually asked, “Are we promoting a movie?”

As Guru-Murthy attempted to stay on the topic, Downey repeatedly looked off camera. When the interviewer brought up the actor’s “dark periods” of his life and his relationship with his father, Downey wondered aloud, “What are we doing?” Seconds later, he walked out on Guru-Murthy, telling him, “You seem OK. It’s just getting a little Diane Sawyer in here.”

Guru-Murthy tweeted a YouTube clip of the interview, writing, “A steely moment from Ironman.”

Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in the U.S. on May 1. It’s being released by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
