Roseanne Barr Reveals She’s Going Blind

ABC/Randy Holmes(NEW YORK) — Roseanne Barr is losing her eyesight. The comedian told the Daily Beast Monday that she has macular degeneration, a medical condition that leads to blindness and her vision “is closing in now.”

“I have macular degeneration and glaucoma,” the 63-year-old comedian revealed while promoting her documentary film, Roseanne for President! at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on Tuesday.

When asked if her doctors have given her a time frame on when she will lose her sight, Roseanne replied, “No, they can’t. My vision is closing in now.”

“I just try and enjoy vision as much as possible, you know? Living it up,” she added.

“My dad had it, too,” Roseanne goes on to explain, adding that she’ll miss reading, but has thought about hiring someone to “read for me and read to me.”

Roseanne, who’s been an advocate for the legalization of marijuana, and is shown smoking pot in her documentary, tells the Daily Beast she’s turned to the drug as a form of medication.

“[Marijuana is] good for me for that because I have pressure in my eyes,” she notes. “[Marijuana is a] good medicine for a lot of things.”

She says it also releases us from mind control. “It’s expansive. It opens your mind. You’re like…Wow, you’re in awe. You look up into the stars. It makes you wonder. It doesn’t close that down.”
