Netflix Announces “Full House” Sequel

ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — Netflix has confirmed that a Full House sequel is on the way.

Late Monday night, Netflix announced it has ordered a 13-episode season of Fuller House, which will premiere in 2016.

The premise of Fuller House is similar to that of the original series, which aired on ABC from 1987 to 1995 — but with a female twist. Candace Cameron-Bure will reprise her role of D.J., who’s now a pregnant widow with two sons. D.J.’s younger sister Stephanie and best friend Kimmy, played by the returning Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber, move in to help D.J. raise her children.

The adult Stephanie is an aspiring musician, and Kimmy is a single mom to a teenage daughter.

Netflix notes that John Stamos will make cameos as Uncle Jesse, and will produce the show. There’s hope that the other major Full House cast members — Bob Saget, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Dave Coulier and Lori Loughlin — will guest star, too; Netflix says discussions are ongoing.

Stamos confirmed the project on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday night. He said the idea of a Full House spin-off had been bandied about for a while: “It’s a labor of love and we’ve been literally trying for so many years to do it right and I think we finally got it perfect.”
