First Four Episodes of “Game of Thrones” Season Five Leaked Online

Helen Sloan/courtesy of HBO (NEW YORK) — The first four episodes of the new Game of Thrones season leaked online on Saturday — just one day before the official season premiere of the HBO series.

The leaked season-five episodes were downloaded more than 100,000 times in just three hours, and surpassed a million downloads by Sunday evening, according to TorrentFreak.

The four leaked episodes most likely originated from review copies sent to a member of the media, according to HBO. The cable network said in a statement, “Sadly, it seems the leaked four episodes of the upcoming season of Game of Thrones originated from within a group approved by HBO to receive them. We’re actively assessing how this breach occurred.”

The new season of Game of Thrones premiered simultaneously in 170 countries on Sunday night.
