Kanye West Compares His Ego to a Big Marble Table

Photo by Larry Busacca/Getty Images for MTV(NEW YORK) — Kanye West has changed in recent years.

The rapper, famous for his angry outbursts and can’t-believe-he-did-that moments, said in a new interview that he’s trying to be a little mellower these days.

“I have this table in my new house,” he told T: The New York Times Style Magazine. “They put this table in without asking. It was some weird nouveau riche marble table, and I hated it. But it was literally so heavy that it took a crane to move it. We would try to set up different things around it, but it never really worked.

“I realized that table was my ego,” he said. “No matter what you put around it, under it, no matter who photographed it, the douchebaggery would always come through.”

Now 37, West has an anger management specialist with whom me meets “all the time” after being sentenced to such sessions following his altercation with a videographer last year. He credits his new life as a husband and father with helping him mellow out. His burgeoning fashion career has been an asset, too.

“I feel like now I have an amazing wife, a supersmart child and the opportunity to create in two major fields,” he said. “Before I had those outlets, my ego was all I had.”
