Mischa Barton Files Lawsuit Against Her Mother

Dave M. Benett/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Former The O.C. star Mischa Barton filed a lawsuit against her mother and former manager, Nuala Barton, on Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. Mischa is claiming breach of oral contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, among other things.

The lawsuit accuses Nuala Barton of bullying her daughter, and says Nuala has been fired from her management role.  The court documents explain that “this action arises from the tragic tale of a greedy stage mother posing as a talent manager who, instead of acting in the best interest of her daughter/client, schemed to defraud her unsuspecting victim.”

In the suit, the 29-year-old claims her mother stole money from her and tossed her out of a multimillion-dollar Beverly Hills home she bought with money earned when Mischa was a child actress.

Mischa also alleges that her mother lied to her about how much money she was making on a 2013 film and then kept the difference.

Mischa is now seeking “recovery of what her own mother stole from her and to be able to proceed with her career free of the meddling” that Nuala has allegedly engaged in.

The suit states that “from the outset, Nuala positioned herself to siphon her daughter’s hard-earned money by purportedly acting as her talent manager,” and engaged in a “series of egregious acts to intentionally exploit and harm her own daughter.”
