DMX Accused in Alleged Newark, NJ Robbery

iStock Editorial/Thinkstock(NEWARD, N.J.) — Newark, New Jersey police are looking into accusations that DMX robbed a man at a gas station early Sunday morning.

A friend of the 21-year-old alleged victim says DMX robbed the victim of about $3,200 cash from a recently-cashed paycheck. The friend says DMX took the money after the rapper’s security detail asked the victim to empty his pockets — apparently to confirm he didn’t have a weapon — and the victim pulled out the money.  The bodyguard allegedly flashed the handle of a gun when the victim protested.  DMX reportedly then left with his entourage. Neither the alleged victim nor the friend were publicly identified.

New York’s WABC-TV reports the alleged victim followed DMX’s entourage of black Escalades and took down license numbers.  Police are also reportedly hoping video surveillance at the gas station will help their investigation.

DMX, born Earl Simmons, was in Newark for a Saturday night show, tweeting afterward, “Jersey!!!!! Thank You!! For real Thank You!!!!!”

No charges have reportedly been filed as yet.
