Will Ferrell Plays in Five Spring Training Games for HBO Special

The actor played for 10 teams during five spring training games in Arizona for an upcoming HBO special from his comedy website, Funny Or Die. He was set to play all of the positions during the course of the day.

Ferrell’s baseball odyssey began at the Seattle Mariners-Oakland Athletics game. He played shortstop for the A’s, but then was traded to the Mariners for a “comedic actor to be named later.” He played second base for the Mariners.

Game number two for Ferrell featured the Chicago Cubs and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He joked that as a kid he rooted for the Angels, “before they became the L.A. Angels of Anaheim, Adjacent to L.A., Just Southern California, South, North of San Diego Angels.” He played center field for the Angels and first base for the Cubs, striking out during an at-bat. He also coached third base for Chicago.

The Arizona Diamondbacks “acquired” Ferrell from the Cubs in exchange for two specialty hot dogs — a Churro dog and a D-Bat dog — before playing the Cincinnati Reds. He played left field for the D’backs and third base for Cincinnati.

In game number four, Ferrell struck out in his at-bat for the Chicago White Sox before being traded to Chicago’s opponent, the San Francisco Giants.

Ferrell finished his day by participating in the Los Angeles Dodgers-San Diego Padres game.

Game-used memorabilia from Ferrell’s day at the ballparks will be auctioned on MLB.com, with proceeds going to Cancer for College and Stand Up to Cancer.
