Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams Plan Appeal of “Blurred Lines” Verdict

Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams are planning an appeal of the verdict that determined they copied Marvin Gaye’s 1977 song “Got to Give It Up” for their 2013 hit, “Blurred Lines.”

A statement from their attorney released Wednesday reads, “If this verdict stands, the creator of Rayon better be on guard for claims from the owner of Silk. We owe it to songwriters of the world to make sure this verdict does not survive.”

A Los Angeles jury passed down their verdict on Tuesday, awarding Gaye’s family more than 7.3 million dollars for copyright infringement.

Thicke, Pharrell and “Blurred Lines” collaborator T.I. said in a statement following the verdict, “While we respect the judicial process, we are extremely disappointed in the ruling made today, which sets a horrible precedent for music and creativity going forward.”
