Lily James Felt Like a Princess While Making “Cinderella”

Disney(NEW YORK) — Lily James was intimidated by the prospect of becoming Cinderella for Disney’s new movie based on the classic fairy tale.

The Downton Abbey actress says she jumped at the chance to star in the movie, recalling to ABC Radio, “Do I want to be directed by Kenneth Branagh, yeah. Do I want to work with Cate Blanchett, hell yeah.”

But then she felt a sense of “fear” and “dread,” and thought, “Oh my God, now I have to do it.”

James, 25, wasn’t as stressed when she wore Cinderella’s blue ball gown. She says, “I sort of put it on and I just gasped. I looked in the mirror and I couldn’t believe it. …It made me feel like a princess.”

She admits that the dress wasn’t comfortable, but “it’s a lot better than having a boob flattener,” which she wears for Downton Abbey.

As for Cinderella’s glass slippers, James didn’t get the chance to try them on. She explains, “I am wearing a sort of silver shoe with green spots because the slippers were CGI’ed onto my foot. Because they’re Swarovski Crystal, and they’d break.”

Cinderella, co-starring Blanchett as the evil stepmother, opens Friday.
